Hi,
I'm just starting with GPS2Aperture, running on 10.5.4, aperture 2.1.1, GE 4.3.7284.3916.
I can get the GPS location from GE fine, when i click to set the location to the master in AP i get an error dialog from GPS2Aperture that says "no db file found". All images are referenced.
Any tips? let me know if there are any log files i could send you that would help.
thanks,
g
Same no db found error in my case also. My photos are already geotagged and that info shows up in Aperture EXIF, but I can't get gps2aperture to put that L/L data into its boxes. I tried moving the master file to a folder on the desktop, same error. I tried selecting the geotagged photo in Aperture, then clicking on Get Position in gps2aperture in the Aperture column. No joy?
Hi both of you,
Is there any chance that the path to your Library contains accented characters?
Ian
I assume you are asking about the Aperture Library?
Here is my path:
/Users/gene/Pictures/Aperture\ Library.aplibrary
on a computer named G5Computer on a disk named G5 HD. Don't know why the terminal didn't report the computer or disk name.
Curiouser and curiouser. I'll put together a diagnostic app later this week for you to download and run.
Thanks for the feedback,
Ian
No accents for me either... /Users/graham/Pictures/Aperture Library.aplibrary
internal HD, named Macintosh HD (not very creative huh?)
-g
(Link removed, please download the newer test app from further down the page.)
Could you download this, run it and send me the results? Or post the results in this thread. That would help me a lot in tracking down the problem!
Thanks,
Ian

Sorry, I left a '-' out of the email address in the readme.
Unfortunately your report shows that all the tests passed, including the bit that would have thrown up the error message in GPS2Aperture - so I may need to do another test app for you to download.
Ian
Here's another more thorough test app:

Could everyone run this and copy the results into a post in the thread?
Thanks,
Ian

EXIF set test Error Managed file!
Tagging of managed files is not supported at this time due to backup purposes, and a bug in Aperture's exporting of geotagged files. Please use File>Relocate Masters... to move the files out of Aperture's Library.
That's just the error message for trying to tag a managed file - at the moment GPS2Aperture is set up only to tag referenced files.
I've done another build of GPS2Aperture Lite which at worst should have error messages that tell me more, and at best will fix the problem:
GPS2Aperture 1.0.16 (5.2MB)
As this is just a 'test' version it doesn't include any documentation.
Crossed-fingers...
Thanks for the update. I tried Get Position under Aperture and Show Position under Google Earth and it worked fine with a previously geotagged photo.
I would suggest that GPS2Aperture Lite absolutely needs to put a marker on Google Earth, just centering the view is not good enough for me. And it would be nice if the text boxes in GPS2Aperture Lite were wider so I could see and more easily copy the data digits.
This is a great little way to view the position of a geotagged photo in Google Earth which to me is better than just Google Maps, which seems to be built into Aperture. I look forward to the Pro version.
Thanks again.
Is Set Position working for you?
Something similar to this is already in the pro version, so I'll look at adding it as a preference in the lite version. But it wouldn't be an option in 'contant update' mode as it would slow things down, and potentially mean that you would have to keep swapping to Google Earth and dismissing dialog boxes.
I'll see how practical it would be to re-arrange things and still keep the window small.
Thanks again.
:-)
You asked if set position worked. While I am confused over what is a referenced vs managed master, after relocating and consolidating a master I was able to put L/L into that photo and export it with the geotag intact. I think my Aperture Library still contains all my imported photos. Maybe :)
the new version works for me...

I am also receiving the no db file found error. I just installed GPS2Aperture 1.0.1.5 on Aperture 2.1.1 for the first time.

I received the errors when trying to enter the lat and longs manually. I have not tried using Google Earth.
Referenced Masters are ones stored outside the Aperture Library, so it's any that have the little 'alias arrow' badge in the Viewer.
As part of GPS2Aperture Pro I'm developing a more sophisticated (and optional) backup system which will be able to cope with both managed and referenced files, which will then be used in GPS2Aperture Lite as well.
Sam - have you tried GPS2Aperture 1.0.16 from post 12 further up in this thread? Several other people are reporting that this works for them.

Frank,
Have you downloaded GPS2Aperture 1.0.16 from post 12 and tried it?
Thanks,

I also had the same "no db file found" problem when upgrading to 1.0.15 (but it worked fine with the version I was using before that). The 1.0.16 version, posted above in the thread, has resolved the issue.

*update*
Oops. I was getting the "no db file found" error when clicking "get position" and no longer get that error. It gets the position just fine now. But when I go to set the same position on another photo, I get the following error message: "Managed file! Tagging of managed files is not supported at this time due to backup purposes, and a bug in Aperture's exporting of geotagged files. Please use File>Relocate Masters... to move the files out of Aperture's Library."
I'd rather not have to relocate, tag, then consolidate the masters. Since I've always had the master images managed by Aperture and since previous versions of GPS2Aperture worked, I'm not sure I understand why it suddenly won't work with these two most recent versions.
Hi Brian,
The beta version of GPS2Aperture Pro works with managed files as well as referenced ones, GPS2Aperture Lite will do this as well when the beta ends!
Ian
