Update of IPTC data not correctly working

Update of IPTC data not correctly working

Dear Ian,

First of all congratulation for this very useful tool. I made some testing with GPS2Aperture 1.0.24 and Aperture 2.1.2. I am using a Garmin Edge 705 as GPS logger.
So far everything works perfect except applying IPTC data. I checked the "Fetch geographic data" which is correctly shown in the GPS2Aperture window. When tagging the picture I can see the data from Country and Closest Place in the appropriate IPTC data fields in Aperture. But after a second this data disappeared and status as it was before is shown (no matter if the fields were empty or contained some data). I would like to see this feature working as it is very useful for me. Do you have an idea what's going wrong?

Thanks Hannes

Managed or referenced

Hello Hannes,

Aperture reacts slightly differently to updated EXIF depending on how the images are stored. Are your Masters managed (in the Aperture Library) or referenced (stored somewhere in a normal Finder folder)?

Thanks,

Ian

Hi Ian, I am using

Hi Ian,

I am using referenced images. BTW the degree of longitude and latitude are correctly inserted in EXIF data.
EDIT: I made the same test with an master image... and it worked. EXIF "Country" and "Closest Place" were correctly updated.

A few more questions...

Is this happening every time?
If an image already has the country name etc. filled in, does re-tagging it from either the Viewer window or the Logger window wipe the country name?
Are other IPTC tags such as the caption also emptied?

Thanks,

Ian

Unfortunately my trial

Unfortunately my trial license expired. As far as I remembered this happened every time for referenced images. I tried several times to re-tag images and every time an existing country name was wiped out (even if I entered it manually before).
If other IPTC tags were effected I cannot say as I didn't pay attention on it.

regards Hannes

Hannes, I'm going to look at

Hannes,

I'm going to look at a way of letting you test things even though the trial period is over, expect an email in the next couple of days.

Thanks,

Ian
