Hi, can somebody guide me in how to export my entire aperture library (masters + versions) from my Mac G5 to my new MacPro without losing any data. Did the migration assistant but cannot find back my photo's in my aperture libr.
Thanks in advance!
Bart
Hello Bart,
Where was the Library stored on the G5?
Did you tell Migration Assistant to copy all your documents, including whatever partition the Library was stored on?
Have you opened Aperture on the G5 and opened the preferences to see where the Library was stored, then compared this to the preferences on the Mac Pro?
What are the comparative sizes of the Library on both computers?
Ian
On the G5 the library is under Users/pravda/pictures with about 98 GB
On the MacPro I can see 103 GB (aperture vault kind; extension apvault) under Users/bart/desktop
I have Aperture version 2.1.4. on the MacPro.
Thanks already for your help Ian!
B
Anything with an extension of .apvault is a backup Vault, NOT a working Library.
On the Mac Pro, is there an Aperture Library in Users/pravda/pictures, and what size is it?
It sounds a bit like your Library didn't get copied across, so you may have to copy it manually by drag-and-drop via the Finder.
Ian
no, only 2,3 GB. Will try again and let you know how it goes.
thanks, Bart
Ian,
What will be the best way to export the entire aperture library from the G5 (masters and versions), making sure I do not lose any data...?
Thanks, Bart
Move the Library across the same way you would any other really huge file - either network the computers together, or copy it to a Mac-formatted external HD and then from the HD to the Mac Pro. Unless your network is incredibly fast, copying it onto a FW HD is likely to be the best bet.
Once the Library is copied onto the Mac Pro, double-click on it in the Finder to launch Aperture with that Library.
